The year 2025 is the Year of the Jubilee!
This is because it will be the year marking the first twenty
five years of the twenty first century.
Therefore, to prepare well for this forth coming year of
Jubilee, His Holiness Pope Francis has declared the year 2024 to be the Year of
Prayer.
The Jubilee Year 2025 is a “special gift of grace” characterized
by repentance and indulgence, for it is a “full expression of God’s mercy”,
says the Pontiff in his letter to Monseigneur Rino Fisichella, president of the
Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization, dated 11th
February 2022.
The triple objective of the Jubilee year 2025 as expressed in
this papal letter is:
First, the pope calls to restore a climate of hope and trust
after the Covid 19 epidemic that not only took many lives but also instilled
fear in humanity. It is a moment of a rebirth, hence the Jubilee motto;
Pilgrims of Hope. This should enable humanity to keep “looking to the future
with an open spirit, a trusting heart and farsighted vision.”
Second, during this Jubilee year, humanity should recover the
sense of universal fraternity. No one, especially the poor and downtrodden, should
be left behind, for all are called to live a dignified life.
Third, it is a moment to care for the creation. This is the
divine will for each and every one; that, being pilgrims on this earth, we may “never
fail, in the course of our sojourn, … contemplate the beauty of creation…”
